I've said the same thing at work. But then again it was just about Football I was talking about and one day our run will come to an end just like Appalachia so I'm not sure in the long run what will be best. Baseball would be hard for us to compete against them. Basketball will be really tough. track? we can't compete now much less when they consolidate. Golf? not sure. Volleyball? again not sure.

Is there another sport besides football, lol. I agree, other sports would be tough to compete when you look at the big picture so it may be best for us to move districts.

I would think it would still hurt JIB in football. I'd doubt they'd be able to pull enough points each year to make it out of the district, playing schools that much larger. And that would be a shame for them, as they are typically one of the strongest D1 teams, they would get outpointed by much weaker teams.
I hope they stay in the whatever district Wise is in...I love the heated rivalry that is Wise/Norton.

did you just flip-flop in this post? You say it would be a shame for them to play with bigger schools and miss out on playoffs but you hope they stay in with Wise Central Warriors? :)
anyway,in football l think we can win against Eastside on a regular basis. I think we would be pretty even with Union and Wise Central and who knows, we may have a much longer run and a more successful run in football coming up. how many kids will start going to Norton that live right outside of Norton, say Josephine, Thackers Branch and surrounding area and Guest River? how many kids in 6-7 grade will opt to go to Norton and how many will sit out a year and transfer now? will be interesting what happens in the next 4-6 years. Will he consolidated schools be another Lee High, sleeping giants that never really wake up or will they be a force at the state level? kind of exciting if you ask me. Now for the other side, it will be sad to lose Appy, Pound nad St. Paul. reading about the Pound graduation in the coalfield brought a tear to my eye to be honest.

Part of the reason I think both would end up in Region D is because by the time they are ready to drop, Region D could have already lost five schools between the Dickenson and Wise consolidations. At that point Region C would be significantly bigger than D. The VHSL would probably put Richlands and Tazewell in the CMD or maybe even the BDD in order to keep the regions relatively balanced numbers-wise. I make this assumption because they wouldn't let Va High and John Battle go to the Hogoheegee a few years ago when VHS dropped mainly because of Region C's size.
Battle petitions every cycle to go back to Region C.

Starting this season Makeing the playoffs in football IS MUCH easier......As for the other sports if the LPD stays a 4 team district then the Div1 schools aare a shoe in for the play offs in the other sports (See Councel Softball this season)

As of now the LPD has 4 teams since Eastside is still in the CD. That gives Burton just 3 district games to play. Two being the new consolodated schools. That will not hurt Burton's chances in the least making the football playoffs. It may in fact help. Burton would IMHO Benefit better staying in the LPD even if Eastside makes the move over. As of now without ES in the LPD Burton will have 7 out of district games. District Champs no longer get a bye so providing Burton keeps a nice out of district schedule they are in great shape. Even though Union and Central will be large Division 2 teams the points will remain the same. No matter if they are D1 or 2 it is still Single A points.
